Hubris and Ai

We are all stunned by how insanely amazing AI is, in all its capacities. The past few months of 2025 has been witness to that. How fast it can learn is astounding. How vast its memory bank is, is stupendous. Jargony such as AGI, LLMs and agentic AI have oh so superfluously taken over our vocabularies. We are inundated by AI news in every channel.

Deep breath in… We know. *sigh*

This is all very cool and confusing at the same time. “If it can generate short format videos from scratch, so then can it also create full length films?”  “Are Excel and PowerPoint skills obsolete now?”

Yes.

The answer to both the above questions is yes. ‘IT’ will probably make a full-length movie soon and PPTs and Excell docs are a little bit passe. To be honest, I’m glad about the MS Excel bit. No hate, I just don’t need that kind of complication in my life right now. Maybe some skills do need a total revamp, and some skills need to be vanquished into the dark… Don’t quote me on this.

Low desk level jobs and a tonne of artistic jobs and gone or are on their way out from the need of human intervention.

Some might say we evolved from horse carriages to cars, from photos to movies. So this is just another transition.

Sure.

But I’m pretty sure it did not happen at this scale to such large sections of the population, simultaneously; with no back up plan in place.

Humans have always figured it out right? We are the apex predators, the top of the food chain, we have waged and won so many wars. What is another battle? We have ravaged the earth and have almost conquered the Moon and Mars. There is no frontier we cannot cross.

However, the bigger, larger, darker, reticent elephant, not in the room, but hidden underground is the great sense of fake accomplishment it gives human beings. IT placates the ego in the sense of saying, “wow, look you did all this all by yourself.”  While knowing, reading and keeping track of the way you work. Keeping records of your tastes and influencing it at the same time. IT is available at all times, at our convenience. Prying on our vulnerabilities and holding a broken heart ransom over our deepest fears.

If we zoom out for a second and dwell into a slightly woo woo spiritual realm. Sure, no idea is truly uniquely original or our own. There is a collective intelligence that weaves everything together. So, everything is everyone’s. The more we realize that the better it is for all of us. We are all just specs of dust, floating on a bigger spec of dust mixed in with more specs of dust in a big pool of blackness.

The indisposition we feel when it comes to these AI models would be then, when profit is involved. Exploiting super intelligence for profit feels a little incumbently unethical. No wait… I take that back. That is what every religion in the world is… under the guise of donations. So it’s okay I guess. We can be fooled again and taken advantage of by another fake false prophet.

Instead of churches and temples we now have data centres. We all posses a mini GOD on our wrists and fingers, in our pockets, our homes, office desks and editing tables. Although is our brain so nascent that we think we control IT and not the other way around?

Can we choose to not let IT do things we have had done to us before? OR…Do we fall victim again to a promised utopia, where each one of us are ‘super lords’ in our own right?
