Get off your high horse

Why do horses invest in the stock market?

…Because they’re financially stable.

Ok, I’ll give you a minute to recover from that…Go ahead…facepalm.

This post contains everything that came to my mind when we say the word…horse.

Sheer speed and majestic strength are the two main things that can be immediately equated with horses. Manes and running come in at a close second.

17th February 2026 marks the beginning of the year of the horse in the Chinese calendar. This year represents fire, passion and intense dynamic energy. Like we don’t have enough of that already. Fire is great and all, but it can also burn us. Hopefully this is the year we realize and internalize that.

In the Bhagwat Gita there are 5 horses that represent our 5 senses, the reins represent the mind, and the charioteer is the intellect that drives them. Krishna gives advice to Arjuna about how the charioteer should be in control of the horses and that it is not the senses or horses that control the intellect. I’m oversimplifying it, but this is the gist of it.

On the other hand, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, War, Famine, Pestilence and Death paint a more sombre picture when it comes to the world, signalling that the end is near.

The only connecting factor here is a horse. There is clearly an underlying theme across vastly separate regions, religions and… car companies, for some reason (Ford Mustang, Ferrari), that hold horses in very high regard.

Sea horses are of course the lesser known and respected of all horses worldwide. (lol, ok, this is where you stop taking me seriously) Which is sad because they are one of the only species where the male carries the eggs to term and gives birth to their young. It’s kind of miraculous to see. PS: Sea horses are not horses, they are fish. Let me just clarify that.

If I must let my mind run wild (no horse pun intended) on the topic of horses.

Sylvester Stallone, stallion in Italian, epitomized himself in the 90s with all the Rambo’s and Rocky’s, as an incredible strong man archetype. It may or may not have anything to do with the reference to a horse in his name. It’s just something to think about.

Lastly, horses are an ideal measurement of a vehicle’s power.  A V12 engine is about 19,300 hp. Which is crazy bananas, because imagine 19000 horses pulling one carriage, with one or two humans inside.

From medieval times horses were used by people to conquer vast expanses. The cavalry rode into battles first, signifying valour. It was a status symbol for the king and queens, but why am I writing about them?

Well, they are quite a novelty now. Not as common as they used to be right? Unless you’re in the American mid-west or a budding equestrian. One would never just see horses around the street corner anymore.

We went from horse drawn carriages to cars, and now, self-driving cars. Technology moves forward; horses don’t run backwards (I checked) but they do become obsolete. Although there is a lot we can learn from their symbolism. They can be a beacon of power and strength as we navigate through possible tough times…At steadfast speed and with the grace of Black Beauty.
